I love December because I can be as sentimental as I want without fear of judgmental eyes. Watch Remember the Titans and cry all day Sunday as a result of watching it? Check. Hug every friend that comes within a 5 metre radius? Check. Bake shortbread cookies while listening to Christmas music and occasionally stopping every once a while because one of my all time favourite Christmas songs just came on and I need a moment to really listen and appreciate it? Check.
So, in keeping with that theme, here's a quote I love. Don't roll your eyes at it. Or where it's from.
"Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it." - Elizabeth Gilbert
